New Appointments: ACCON has recently made to new appointments. Michelle Clifton has recently joined ACCON as an Environmental Consultant from the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL). At TRL Michelle was involved in a range of acoustic projects on low noise surfaces, noise barriers and vehicles that produce excessive noise. Michelle is also experienced in various noise measurement procedures, including short-term surveys and noise mapping, air quality, water and waste. ACCON’s second appointee,Rebecca Barnard, joins ACCON from ISVR at the University of Southampton. Rebecca is a trained acoustician with considerable expertise in the field of noise and vibration.

 

Government Advisors – Statutory Nuisance: ACCON has recently been appointed as part of the team advising Defra and the Government on issues regarding statutory nuisance. This five year contract will see ACCON personnel advising on a range of issues connected to statutory nuisance including lighting, odour and insects, as well as noise.

 

Acoustics’08 Paris: ACCON UK’s directorsGraham Parry and Nick Hawkins have both had papers accepted at the prestigious Acoustics’08 conference in Paris at the end of June. They will be joining their colleagues from Germany in presenting a range of papers on subjects including noise mapping, wind farm noise and gunfire noise.

 

Noise Mapping England: The Government has recently published a series of noise maps covering 23 urban areas in England, showing the level of environmental noise from industries, airports, road and rail networks, which allow residents to search by postcode. The maps for Bristol and Bournemouth where constructed by ACCON. The web site can be seen here: http://noisemapping.defra.gov.uk/wps/portal/noise.
