There are a number of specific regulations that apply to highway and railway schemes in addition to the EIA Regulations that will apply to larger projects.  Road traffic noise is the most widespread source of environmental noise in the UK.  Developments of high speed rail and increasing rail freight traffic have heightened public awareness of noise and vibration from railways. In addition, there are an increasing number of developments of tram, light rail and guided bus systems. ACCON personnel have extensive experience of all aspects of transportation noise and vibration.

We are able to provide comprehensive noise and vibration assessments in accordance with policies and standards at International, European, National or at Local Authority level having advised on a wide range of projects in the UK and internationally.

Road Traffic Noise

ACCON UK Limited’s personnel have over 40 years experience of dealing with noise and vibration issues related to roads. Our personnel are acknowledged experts on the application of differing methodologies and criteria for the assessment of noise and vibration impacts from transportation.

Conventional and High Speed Rail Noise

ACCON UK Limited’s personnel have over 40 years experience of dealing with noise and vibration issues related to railways. Our personnel are acknowledged experts on railway noise and vibration modelling and the assessment of noise and vibration impacts from railway schemes.

In particular we are expert in the application of the Technical Memorandum “Calculation of Railway Noise” (CRN). We routinely utilise the methodologies within CRN in order predict the impacts of railway noise on new developments and from new or altered lines. We offer the following services:

  • Railway noise and vibration surveys
  • Noise predictions and modelling in accordance with Calculation of Railway Noise and The Noise Insulation (Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems) Regulations 1996

In 2013 ACCON UK won the prestigious ANC award for Environmental Acoustics for our work on Groundborne Noise and Vibration (GBNV) prediction for the Crossrail project.
